Can I make my lavender boots Superman red?

My boots are, I'm not sure the exact material, it can either be suede, or it can be something similar to it. I've had them for a few years, and since boots are rather pricey, and red ones are nearly hard to find ( especially on the cheaper end), and was wondering if I could dye them myself, and however it can be done, where can I purchase the necessary products?
