Ants invading my newly planted lavender - any suggestions?

Just had the same problem with one of my planters in the front yard. Also, had many ant problems down in Louisiana. A simple dusting of 5% Sevin dust will run them out and it won't harm any pets, kids, etc. Now that won't kill them but it will run them out without problems.

Ants invading my newly planted lavender - any suggestions?
chop the lavender up

this way, the ants will be scared by the plants ugly features, and will run a mile
Reply:If you need a nest to be terminated, I simply mix 1 Tablespoon Boric Acid (powder from first aid section in pharmacy), 1 Tablespoon sugar, and 1/3 cup water. You place that out in some discardable jar lids and place a pot upside-down over them to stop animals from messing with it. You can put a small stick under one edge to be sure the ants can get to the mix. It is a dessicant, and the ants will take it home and feast on it before it dries them all out. It takes about 48 hours for any ant nests feeding on it to be terminated. The mix is non toxic when diluted, so just flush the remainder down the drain. If you place a tin of it right by the lavender, the ants that feed on the lavender will find it. I use it to remove sugar ants that want into my kitchen (why look for the nest when they already know the way?) and for nests trying to locate under my pavers in the sand and gravel.

It works great.
